Eat Pineapple and Reap its Benefits!!

Pineapple is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and has many health benefits. But one of pineapples best qualities is that it is rich in Bromelain.

Bromelain is a group of enzymes notable for their digestive and anti-inflammatory properties. Its benefits include:
·  Prevents swelling of inflamed joints.
·  Promotes healing and pain reduction in sore muscles.
·  Causes the body to produce substances that fight pain and swelling.
·  Works well in both the stomach and the intestines to break down  proteins.
·  Helps reduce heartburn and diarrhea.
·  Aids in digestion and, ultimately, the delivery of protein to growing muscles.
    ·  Reduce pain associated with arthritis, and reduce post-surgery inflammation.

Pineapple yields less than 0.5 calories per gram, making it a diet-friendly food. One cup of pineapple weighs roughly 165 g, of which 142 g is water and 2.3 g is fiber. Because of its low calorie, high water content and the dietary fiber this sweet fruit provides, pineapple can help fill you up without breaking your calorie budget.

Enjoy fresh pineapple on top of your salad or chicken. Or I like to chop mine atop of couscous. Cooking pineapples destroys the bromelain enzyme, so to reap the benefits, and enjoy it fresh.

Until next time,
