EAT this SUPERFOOD

Superfood Flaxseed

Flaxseed is an Omega-3 which is an essential fatty acid and is needed for overall good health. Omega 3 in particular, (there are 6 and 9) but 3 has been proven to regulate appetite and to accelerate fat burning. Also it contains ALA, or alpha-linolenic acid, which reduces fat storage.

The best sources are oily, cold-water fish, including mackerel, salmon, herring and sardines. Another way of getting omega-3 in your diet is through plant products. The best sources include flaxseed, hempseed, pumpkin seed and rapeseed. Dark green leafy vegetables like kale, collard greens, and parsley are also good sources.

So why am I just choosing to do a challenge on Flaxseed, the Superfood?

Flaxseed has 27 identifiable cancer preventative compounds. Many experts recommend it for breast and prostate cancer prevention. It has also been shown to aid in the regulation of blood sugar, and to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and blood pressure.

If all of that isn't enough, you should know that people who consume it daily show an increased metabolic rate and are leaner on average than those who do not. It also does wonders for your skin and hair.

AND MORE....

Have troubles with constipation? A daily dose of flaxseed cures that quickly!

There have been reports that flaxseed helps with menopausal symptoms, enhances your immune system, alleviates inflammatory conditions and even helps with ADD.

WOW, all that from one little seed. FYI: the seed must be ground, eating just the seed will pass straight through your body and your body will not use it for any of its benefits. Also, keep your seeds fresher longer by storing them in a cool, dark place. I store mine in the refrigerator.

How Much?
Start with one teaspoon  a day and gradually work your way up to 2-4tsp per day. I put mine in my morning smoothie or cereal or oatmeal, or you can sprinkle onto your salad or soups. Or incorporate them into your healthy muffins. Enjoy!

Good luck with this weeks FUN Challenge:
for the next 7 days get at least one tsp. of flaxseed.

Until next time,
